DLSA Leh Organises Legal Awareness Programme on World Day of Social Justice

Leh: The District Legal Services Authority, Leh (DLSA) organised a Legal Awareness Programme at the DC Conference Hall, Leh, to mark the World Day of Social Justice, reinforcing its commitment to promoting equality, human rights and access to justice for all.

The globally observed day highlights the importance of social justice, particularly for marginalized and vulnerable communities.


Focus on Equal Access to Justice

The programme was attended by Mr. Wangail Tsering, Sub-Judge and Secretary of DLSA Leh; Advocate Phuntsog Stobgyal, Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel; Advocate Tsering Laskit, Panel Lawyer; ICDS workers; DLSA staff; and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs).

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Wangail Tsering emphasized the importance of ensuring equal access to justice, especially for women and children from vulnerable sections of society. He informed participants about various legal safeguards and highlighted the availability of free legal aid services for eligible beneficiaries through DLSA.

He also discussed the Victim Compensation Scheme in POCSO cases, underlining provisions for financial assistance and rehabilitative support for child victims.


Awareness on Legal Rights and Remedies

Advocate Phuntsog Stobgyal spoke about the crucial role of legal awareness in strengthening social justice. He explained the procedures for accessing legal services through DLSA and encouraged participants to seek timely legal remedies when needed.

Advocate Tsering Laskit delivered a detailed session on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, explaining the rights of aggrieved women under the law.

Key provisions discussed included:

  • Protection orders
  • Residence orders
  • Monetary relief
  • Custody orders
  • Compensation mechanisms

She also outlined the process for filing complaints, the role of Protection Officers and the legal remedies available to ensure immediate protection for survivors of domestic violence.


Interactive Session Encourages Community Participation

The programme concluded with an interactive session, where participants raised queries and received clarifications from legal experts. The engagement reflected growing awareness and community interest in legal rights and protections.

Through such initiatives, DLSA Leh continues to promote legal literacy, strengthen access to justice and support the welfare of vulnerable communities in Ladakh.
