Five-Day RAMP Workshop on Product Certification and Capacity Building Concludes in Kargil

Kargil, February 19, 2026: A five-day Workshop-cum-Training Programme on “Product Certification and Capacity Building for Women SHG Members” under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Programme concluded successfully in Kargil, with strong participation from MSME entrepreneurs and women Self Help Group (SHG) members engaged in the food processing sector.

The programme was jointly organised by the Industries & Commerce Department UT Ladakh and the Food Safety Department Kargil at the Conference Hall of the District Industries Centre (DIC), Kargil.

Focus on MSME Formalisation and Market Readiness

Addressing the participants, Sh. Shakil Ahmad, Assistant Extension Officer, DIC Kargil, highlighted the increasing importance of product certification, quality assurance, branding, and compliance in strengthening local enterprises.

He noted that the RAMP initiative aims to promote formalisation of MSMEs, enhance competitiveness, and ensure long-term sustainability of grassroots businesses. The session also provided detailed information on scheme objectives, institutional support, and available financial and technical assistance for entrepreneurs.

Emphasis on FSSAI Registration and Food Safety Compliance

Mr. Mohd Ali, Food Safety Officer, HQ Kargil, conducted a comprehensive session on food safety standards and compliance requirements. He stressed the necessity of obtaining registration under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for food businesses.

A live demonstration of the FSSAI registration process was conducted to help participants understand documentation procedures and regulatory requirements.

Branding, Packaging and Business Expansion Strategies

The concluding sessions focused on:

  • Branding and product positioning
  • Standardised labelling practices
  • Improved packaging techniques
  • Market expansion strategies

Participants were introduced to innovative business models adopted by emerging entrepreneurs from Ladakh, encouraging SHG members to modernise operations and scale up production.

Industrial Visit to Zilpa Chu Enterprises

As part of the practical learning component, participants visited Zilpa Chu Enterprises, where they observed the mineral water filtration and production process. Technical demonstrations on processing and packaging were conducted, followed by an interactive session addressing quality standards and product development queries.

Strong Participation from SHGs and MSMEs

Nearly 40 SHG members and MSME representatives attended the workshop, actively participating in discussions and hands-on training sessions.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from the Director, Industries & Commerce, UT Ladakh, who appreciated the enthusiastic involvement of participants and assured continued capacity-building initiatives to strengthen the MSME ecosystem in the region.

The successful completion of the workshop underscores Ladakh’s commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs, improving product quality standards, and promoting sustainable MSME growth under the RAMP programme.
