FLN Lesson Planning and Jolly Phonics Teacher Training Workshop Concludes Successfully at DIET Leh

A five-day teacher training workshop on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Lesson Planning and Jolly Phonics successfully concluded on February 21 at DIET Leh.

The programme was organized in collaboration with the 17000 Feet Foundation and Jolly Phonics UK, aiming to strengthen foundational teaching skills among educators in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

Expert-Led Training on Foundational Literacy and Phonics

The workshop sessions were conducted by expert resource persons Mrs. Archana Mahindra and Mr. Shainaz Jussa, a certified Jolly Phonics Trainer from the UK.

The trainers provided:

  • Practical classroom demonstrations
  • Effective lesson planning strategies
  • Interactive teaching-learning activities
  • Techniques to enhance phonetics and early literacy skills

The intensive training focused on equipping teachers with innovative pedagogical tools to improve foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes in primary classrooms.

Focus on Strengthening Teaching Practices

Throughout the five-day programme, participants engaged in hands-on activities designed to enhance their understanding of phonics-based instruction and child-centric teaching methodologies. The sessions emphasized improving pronunciation skills, reading fluency, and numeracy competencies among young learners.

The valedictory function was graced by the Joint Director of the School Education Department, UT Ladakh, as the Chief Guest. The Principal of DIET Leh welcomed the dignitary and appreciated the dedication and commitment shown by the resource persons in delivering quality training.

Education Department Assures Full Support

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest assured teachers that the School Education Department would extend full support in addressing service-related matters. He encouraged participants to implement the newly acquired teaching methodologies in their respective schools to enhance student learning outcomes.

The successful completion of the FLN and Jolly Phonics workshop marks a significant step toward strengthening foundational education in Ladakh, aligning with national education reforms and efforts to improve early-grade learning standards.
