Government Primary School Skara Yokma Upgraded to Ladakh Model School, Strengthening Education Infrastructure in Leh

Leh: In a significant step toward strengthening government education in the Union Territory, Government Primary School Skara Yokma has been officially upgraded into a Ladakh Model School. The inauguration-cum-upgradation ceremony was attended by Bhanu Prabha, Administrative Secretary of the School Education Department, marking another milestone in Ladakh’s education reform drive.


Focus on Quality Education and Modern Infrastructure

The event was attended by senior officials including the Principal of DIET Leh, District Programme Officer (DPO) Leh, Deputy Chief Education Officer (Dy CEO) Kargil, and Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Leh Padma Dechen, along with local community representatives, teachers, parents and students.

Headmaster Dorjey Namgail welcomed the dignitaries and acknowledged the efforts of the School Education Department in strengthening government schools across Ladakh. He emphasized the importance of increasing student enrolment to fully utilize the upgraded infrastructure and enhanced facilities.


Vision to Transform All Government Schools into Model Institutions

Addressing the gathering, Administrative Secretary Bhanu Prabha outlined her vision of transforming every government school in Ladakh into a model institution equipped with modern facilities and innovative teaching practices.

She stressed the importance of:

  • Improved school infrastructure
  • Regular academic monitoring
  • Strong collaboration between parents and teachers

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring holistic development and equal educational opportunities for all students in the region.


Innovative School Design and Child-Friendly Learning Spaces

Architect Konchok Tashi presented the design and structural features of the upgraded school building. The model school incorporates innovative, child-friendly learning spaces aimed at creating an inspiring academic environment conducive to interactive and experiential learning.

Dignitaries conducted a detailed inspection of classrooms and facilities developed under the Model School framework and interacted with students, encouraging them to make the most of the improved learning environment.


Community Participation and Student Support

The Nambardar of Skara, Angchuk, welcomed the upgradation and raised key developmental concerns, seeking continued departmental support for the institution’s growth.

As part of the programme, newly enrolled students were felicitated with school bags, symbolizing encouragement and support for their academic journey.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by ZEO Leh Padma Dechen, who reiterated the department’s dedication to strengthening Ladakh’s education system.

The School Education Department, under the leadership of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor and guidance of the Chief Secretary, continues to focus on upgrading infrastructure, enhancing teaching standards and building stronger foundations for students across Ladakh.
