J&K Cabinet Approves 18% Fare Hike for Passenger Vehicles

The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet has approved an 18 percent increase in fares for all passenger vehicles in the Union Territory.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held in Jammu, chaired by Omar Abdullah.

The proposals approved by the Cabinet will now be sent to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir for final approval.

New Fare Structure for E-Rickshaws and E-Autos

The Cabinet also approved new fare rates for electric passenger vehicles.

According to the decision:

  • E-rickshaw fare has been fixed at ₹15 per kilometre
  • E-auto fare will be ₹25 for the first kilometre and ₹20 per kilometre thereafter

Officials said the revised fare structure aims to balance operational costs for transport operators while maintaining reasonable travel charges for passengers.

Allowances for Ministers and MLAs Increased

In another important decision, the Cabinet approved a proposal to enhance allowances for ministers, members of the legislative assembly, the Speaker, and the Leader of the Opposition.

The move involves amendments to existing rules governing their benefits.

Revised Benefits Include Travel, Housing and Medical Facilities

Under the proposed changes, allowances related to the following areas will be increased:

  • Travel expenses
  • Medical facilities
  • Housing benefits
  • Car loan facilities

Officials said the amendments are intended to update allowances in line with current requirements.

The proposals will take effect after receiving final approval from the Lieutenant Governor.
