Kargil, February 24, 2026: Several delegations from across Kargil district met the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, at Hotel The Kargil to present various public grievances and developmental demands.
The delegations highlighted issues related to land digitisation, urban infrastructure, irrigation projects, and healthcare facilities, seeking timely government intervention.
Land Digitisation and Urban Infrastructure Among Key Issues
A delegation led by Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil (LAHDC Kargil), Kacho Mohd Feroz, along with other councillors, raised concerns regarding land digitisation under SO-75.
The delegation stressed the need to expedite digitisation of land records to improve transparency, efficiency, and public service delivery in the district.
Another delegation headed by Councillor Town Haji Abass Adulpa highlighted urban challenges in Kargil town. Key demands included:
- Addressing the issue of stray dogs
- Sanctioning a 24×7 Urban Primary Health Centre (PHC)
- Administrative approval for a proposed multi-level car parking facility
Irrigation and Water Resource Demands from Yourbaltak
A separate delegation from the Yourbaltak constituency brought forward concerns related to irrigation and water resources. They demanded approval for the second phase of the Lift Irrigation Scheme, a comprehensive groundwater survey, and clearance of pending irrigation canal projects.
The delegation also invited the Chief Secretary to visit the area for an on-ground assessment of the situation.
Assurance of Phased Action
Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra gave a patient hearing to all delegations and assured them that the issues would be addressed in a phased and coordinated manner. He stated that necessary steps would be taken in consultation with the concerned departments to resolve genuine demands at the earliest.
The meeting reflects the ongoing efforts of the Ladakh administration to engage with local representatives and address development priorities across Kargil district.
