In a proud achievement for the Union Territory of Ladakh, Maqsuma Banoo, a B.Com 4th semester student of Government Degree College Kargil, has been awarded the Medallion for Excellence in Beauty Therapy at the IndiaSkills Regional Competition 2025–26.
Recognition Beyond Top Three Positions
The Medallion for Excellence is awarded to participants who demonstrate exceptional performance beyond the top three ranks—gold, silver, and bronze.
The regional competition witnessed participation from around 330 competitors representing nine States and Union Territories, competing across 63 skill categories.
Milestone Achievement for Ladakh
Ladakh participated in the regional competition for the first time, fielding six competitors across three skill trades:
- Beauty Therapy
- Graphic Designing
- Fashion Technology
All six participants were selected as top performers at the Union Territory-level IndiaSkills competition, where nearly 20 candidates competed in each trade.
Winning a Medallion for Excellence in its debut participation marks a significant milestone for Ladakh’s growing skilling ecosystem.
Boost to Ladakh’s Skill Development Ecosystem
The achievement reflects the increasing strength of skill development initiatives in the region, supported by the establishment of 16 skill centres across seven higher education institutions in Ladakh.
Members of the Ladakh contingent expressed gratitude to the administration, including the Ladakh Skill Development Mission and Government Degree College Kargil, for providing training support and exposure through boot camps at reputed institutes.
Government Reaffirms Support for Youth Talent
Administrative Secretary Bhanu Prabha, who also serves as Mission Director of the Ladakh Skill Development Mission, congratulated the team upon their arrival in Leh.
She reiterated the administration’s commitment to nurturing local talent and providing opportunities for youth to excel at national and international platforms.
Plans for Annual Skill Competitions in Ladakh
Under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and guidance of Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra, the Ladakh Skill Development Mission plans to organize annual UT-level skill competitions.
The initiative aims to encourage youth participation in vocational education and enhance employability.
