Leh: The District Administration of Leh has launched a district-wide cleanliness initiative titled “Leh gLagsmo” aimed at promoting a cleaner, healthier and more beautiful town.
The campaign was officially launched by Deputy Commissioner Leh, Romil Singh Donk (IAS). The initiative will run for six months and focuses on improving sanitation standards, encouraging responsible waste disposal and increasing community participation in maintaining public hygiene.
Week-Long Special Cleanliness Campaign
As part of the programme, a special cleanliness drive will begin on March 9, 2026, and continue for one week across Leh town. During this period, focused cleaning activities will be carried out in streets, marketplaces, public places and identified waste hotspots.
Participation from Community and Local Organisations
The drive will be carried out with active participation from municipal teams, volunteers, educational institutions and local organisations.
Several associations have also joined the initiative, including the Leh Merchant Association, the All Ladakh Gonpa Association (ALGHA) and the All Ladakh Tour Operators Association (ALTOA).
Focus on Community Participation and Waste Segregation
The campaign emphasises community participation, proper waste segregation and collective responsibility in maintaining a clean environment in Leh.
Citizens, business establishments and local stakeholders have been encouraged to actively support the initiative and contribute to keeping the town clean and sustainable.
Administration Appeals for Public Support
The District Administration Leh has appealed to residents and stakeholders to cooperate and participate wholeheartedly in the cleanliness campaign.
Officials said the initiative aims to build a cleaner and more sustainable Leh district, benefiting both the local community and visitors.
