Pashmina Conclave 2026 Day 2 Highlights: Standards, Design Innovation and Global Branding for Changthang Fibre

Leh: The second day of the Pashmina Conclave 2026 concluded with a strong focus on quality standards, design integration, branding strategies and institutional strengthening under the theme “From Changthang Fibre to Global Luxury Standards.”

Organised by the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh, the two-day conclave brought together policymakers, designers, institutions, entrepreneurs, cooperative representatives and artisans to create a structured roadmap for positioning Changthang Pashmina as a global luxury brand.

Focus on Quality Assurance and Standardisation

The first panel discussion on Fibre Quality, Testing and Standardisation was moderated by Secretary Cooperative Bhupesh Chaudhary (IAS). Representatives from the Changthang Cooperative Society, EZMA, the Textile Committee, Jungwa Foundation and Pangong Craft Institute participated.

The session emphasised maintaining international quality benchmarks through scientific testing, fibre segregation, systematic aggregation, traceability and authentication.

A key highlight was a detailed presentation by Y.V. Rao, Market Research Officer, Textile Committee, on the Pashmina Mark Standard Operating Procedures, outlining certification norms, testing parameters, compliance mechanisms and grievance redressal systems to strengthen authenticity in global markets.

Fibre-to-Fashion Integration and Cultural Identity

The second session focused on integrating traditional Changthang fibre with contemporary design while preserving Ladakh’s cultural identity.

Moderated by Secretary RDD Shashanka Ala (IAS), the panel included representatives from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), designer Suket Dhir, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Oden Collectives.

The discussion stressed design innovation, branding expertise, and capacity building to ensure Ladakh’s Pashmina remains both culturally rooted and globally competitive.

Brand Architecture and Market Expansion

The third panel on Brand Architecture, Market Access and Commercial Scaling deliberated on strategic brand positioning, expanding market linkages and scaling production without compromising quality.

Industry voices from LehValle, Coral Hue, Ahujasons and other stakeholders shared insights on building premium brand value for Changthang Pashmina in international luxury markets.

Institutional Convergence and Skill Development

The fourth session focused on institutional collaboration and ecosystem governance. Participants from NABARD, Central Silk Board, Central Wool Development Board and industry representatives discussed financial convergence, skill development initiatives and the proposal to establish a dedicated Pashmina Board in Ladakh.

The session underlined the importance of coordinated institutional efforts to strengthen the entire Pashmina value chain—from herders to global retailers.

Field Visit to Pashmina De-Hairing Plant

Following the conclave, visiting experts and stakeholders conducted a field visit to the Pashmina De-hairing Plant in Leh. The visit provided firsthand insights into processing techniques and operational systems, along with recommendations for product development and value addition.

The two-day Pashmina Conclave 2026 concluded successfully with a unified commitment to protect the authenticity of Changthang Pashmina and elevate its position in global luxury markets.
