Training Camp on Natural and Organic Farming Organised in Khardong Village Under ATMA Scheme

A training camp on natural and organic farming was successfully organised in Khardong village on March 8, 2026, under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme.

The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers about sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices and promote the adoption of natural farming methods in the region.

Awareness on Government Schemes for Farmers

During the programme, the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO), Nubra, provided a detailed overview of various government schemes and initiatives available for farmers.

He encouraged participants to take advantage of these schemes to enhance agricultural productivity and improve their livelihoods.

Session on Vermicomposting and Soil Health

Subject Matter Specialist Stanzin Gonbo delivered an informative session on vermicomposting techniques, highlighting the importance of maintaining healthy soil for sustainable agriculture.

He explained different organic methods to restore and maintain soil fertility, emphasizing the long-term benefits of natural inputs over chemical fertilizers.

Natural Farming Techniques Explained

Chimet Lhamo, Agriculture Extension Officer, presented a comprehensive overview of natural farming techniques and demonstrated how farmers can incorporate these methods into their daily agricultural practices.

The session focused on promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices to ensure long-term agricultural productivity.

Practical Demonstrations for Farmers

Around 70 farmers participated in the training programme. At the end of the session, officials conducted practical demonstrations on the preparation of:

  • Beejamrit for organic seed treatment
  • Jeevamrit as a microbial culture to improve soil fertility
  • Agni Astra as a natural pest repellent

Farmers were also informed about no-cost natural inputs that can be prepared using locally available materials to manage routine farming operations in a sustainable and cost-effective way.

Farmers Welcome Initiative

The training programme was highly informative and well received by the participating farmers. Officials said the initiative will help increase awareness and adoption of natural and organic farming practices, contributing to sustainable agriculture in the region.
