A Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament session was successfully held at the University of Ladakh, Leh Campus, on March 9, 2026. The event provided a platform for young participants to share their perspectives on the theme “50 Years Since the Emergency in India.”
The programme was organised by Mera Yuva Bharat in Leh as a district-level initiative, bringing together students from various colleges and institutions across the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Participants Selected for Next Level
From the district-level round, 10 participants were selected to advance to the Union Territory-level competition, where they will compete for the opportunity to represent Ladakh at the Indian Parliament Youth platform.

University Officials Welcome Participants
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Jigmet Deachen, Dean of the College and NSS Coordinator at the University of Ladakh. He welcomed the distinguished jury members and thanked them for guiding the selection process.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Saket Kushwaha, joined the event virtually and extended his best wishes to the participants. He also appreciated the organisers for providing a meaningful platform for youth engagement and democratic dialogue.
Students Deliver Speeches on Emergency Era
During the competition, each participant delivered a three-minute speech on the topic. Students represented institutions such as:
- GDC Khaltse
- EJM College Leh
- University of Ladakh, Leh Campus
- GDC Nubra
Dr. Subrat Sharma, who addressed the gathering, shared his experiences from the period of the Emergency in India. He also extended greetings on International Women’s Day and appreciated the fact that all participants in the session were women, calling it a strong example of women’s empowerment.
He encouraged young women to raise their voices and actively participate in democratic processes.
Encouragement for Global Academic Participation
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Tajamul Ara, JD at Mera Yuva Bharat, who thanked the University of Ladakh and the jury members for their support.
In his concluding remarks, Sonam Chosjor, JKAS, Assistant Chief Electoral Officer, Leh, announced an upcoming “India’s Idea – International Symposium”, scheduled to be held in May with participation from around 40 countries.
He encouraged students and teachers to actively participate in the global academic event.
