DoT Enhances Telecom Infrastructure for Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2024

Date:

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has announced significant upgrades to telecom infrastructure aimed at ensuring uninterrupted mobile connectivity for pilgrims participating in the Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2024. Collaborating closely with major Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) such as Airtel, BSNL, and Reliance JIO, the initiative aims to enhance communication facilities along the Yatra routes to facilitate a seamless experience for pilgrims.

This year, a total of 82 sites operated by Airtel, Reliance JIO (RJIL), and BSNL will be activated to provide comprehensive coverage throughout the pilgrimage journey. Notably, 31 new sites have been strategically installed along the Yatra routes, marking a significant increase from the 51 sites established in 2023. This expansion is designed to ensure robust mobile connectivity across critical stretches from Lakhanpur to Qazigund, and from Qazigund to Pahalgam and Baltal.

The upgraded infrastructure promises to deliver reliable 2G, 3G, 4G, and in some areas, even 5G connectivity, catering not only to the pilgrims but also to the general public in the region. The deployment of advanced technologies aims to meet the increasing demand for data services amidst challenging terrain and varying climatic conditions.

In addition to enhancing network coverage, the DoT has opened key points of SIM distribution centers to facilitate easier access to telecom services for Yatris. These centers are strategically located at:

  • Lakhanpur
  • Yatri Niwas Bhagwati Nagar
  • Chanderkot
  • Anantnag
  • Srinagar
  • Srinagar Airport
  • Pahalgam
  • Sonamarg
  • Baltal

These centers are expected to play a crucial role in extending telecom facilitation to pilgrims, ensuring they stay connected throughout their spiritual journey.

The comprehensive improvements in telecom infrastructure underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing the overall experience and safety of pilgrims during the Shri Amarnathji Yatra. With increased connectivity and access to modern telecom services, pilgrims can now stay connected with their families and communities while embarking on this sacred pilgrimage amidst the picturesque landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir.
