PM Modi Advocates for Judicial System Overhaul to Realize ‘Viksit Bharat’

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a transformative overhaul of India’s district judiciary in a keynote address at the National Conference of District Judiciary. His speech focused on the critical role that judicial modernization will play in advancing the country’s goal of becoming a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).

PM Modi underscored the need for comprehensive reforms within the district judiciary, emphasizing that modernization is crucial for enhancing the speed and efficiency of justice. He commended the e-Courts initiative for its success in leveraging technology to expedite legal proceedings and manage case backlogs more effectively. According to Modi, such technological advancements are essential for creating a more streamlined and responsive judicial system.

Central to the Prime Minister’s vision is the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), a proposed reform aimed at revamping and consolidating India’s legal codes. The BNS is designed to simplify and modernize legal procedures, making the system more coherent and accessible. Modi believes that this reform will significantly improve judicial efficiency and clarity.

Modi also highlighted the urgency of addressing cases of violence against women with greater speed. He asserted that the swift resolution of such cases is crucial for ensuring women’s safety and upholding their rights. The Prime Minister noted that timely justice in these matters not only supports victims but also serves as a deterrent against future crimes, reinforcing societal confidence in the justice system.

“The efficiency with which we address and resolve cases of violence against women directly impacts their safety and the overall integrity of our legal system,” Modi said. His emphasis on this issue reflects a broader commitment to enhancing the judiciary’s role in protecting vulnerable populations and promoting justice.

The National Conference of District Judiciary provided a platform for discussing these critical reforms and exploring their implementation. Modi’s address highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming the judicial system as a key component of national progress.

Through a focus on technological integration, legislative reform, and the expedited handling of sensitive cases, PM Modi’s agenda aims to modernize the judiciary and support India’s development goals. These changes are expected to play a pivotal role in fostering a more just, efficient, and equitable society.
