Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2024 today, marking a significant milestone in the country’s journey from being a major importer of mobile phones to emerging as the world’s second-largest producer and exporter of electronics. The event, held at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida, showcased India’s impressive growth in the electronics sector and outlined ambitious goals for the future.

In his keynote address, PM Modi emphasized the transformative shift in India’s electronics industry, noting the country’s rapid advancement from a reliance on imports to becoming a leading global player. “India has moved from being a mobile phone importer to achieving the status of the second-largest producer and exporter of electronics,” Modi stated. “This remarkable progress is a testament to our nation’s commitment to technological innovation and industrial growth.”

The Prime Minister highlighted the broader impact of this growth on the Indian economy, particularly within the semiconductor sector. He outlined the government’s vision to drive the electronics industry towards a target of $500 billion by the end of the decade. Achieving this goal, Modi explained, will not only boost the semiconductor industry but also create innumerable job opportunities across various sectors.

“Our aim is to harness the potential of the semiconductor sector to fuel economic growth and job creation,” Modi said. “The booming electronics sector is a cornerstone of our strategy to ensure that India becomes a global hub for technology and manufacturing.”

The SEMICON India 2024 event, which brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and technology experts, serves as a platform to discuss the future of the semiconductor industry and explore opportunities for collaboration and innovation. The conference underscores India’s strategic focus on advancing its technology infrastructure and enhancing its position in the global electronics market.

As India sets its sights on becoming a major player in the global electronics and semiconductor industries, the government’s policies and initiatives are expected to drive substantial growth and development in these sectors, further solidifying the country’s role in the international technology landscape.
