Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Two-Day J&K Visit, To Attend Kashmir University Convocation

Srinagar: Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan began his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. According to officials, he will arrive at Srinagar Airport in the evening and proceed to Lok Bhawan in the Chashma Shahi area, where he will stay overnight.

The Vice President will be received at the airport by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Chief Guest at Kashmir University Convocation

On Thursday, the Vice President will attend the 21st Convocation Ceremony of University of Kashmir, to be held at the Hazratbal campus. The Lieutenant Governor serves as Chancellor of the university, while the Chief Minister is the Pro-Chancellor.

Security has been tightened across Srinagar ahead of the high-profile visit. Security forces conducted route rehearsals along the Vice President’s designated travel path to ensure smooth movement.

Traffic Restrictions and Security Arrangements in Srinagar

Authorities have set up temporary checkpoints at several locations in the city, and vehicles entering Srinagar are being thoroughly checked to ensure VVIP security.

The Traffic Police have issued an advisory requesting citizens to strictly follow alternate routes to facilitate uninterrupted movement of the VVIP convoy.

On Thursday, vehicular movement will be restricted in several areas, including:

  • Badami Bagh Chowk and Gupkar routes towards Nishat, Shalimar, and Harwan
  • Ram Munshi Bagh to Hotel Grand Palace
  • Dal Gate, Khayam, Khanayar, Rainawari, Saidkadal, and Hazratbal roads during restricted hours

Traffic will be diverted through alternate routes such as Sangarmal, Ikhwan Chowk, Nowhatta, 90 Feet Road, Malbagh, Burzahama, Chandpora, Tailbal, and Zakora, depending on the direction of travel.

Authorities clarified that medical emergency cases will be facilitated after proper verification. Citizens requiring assistance can contact the Traffic Police Control Room at 103.

The Vice President’s visit is expected to reinforce the Centre’s engagement with Jammu and Kashmir while highlighting the region’s academic and developmental progress.
