PM Modi Leads Mahavir Jayanti Wishes, Calls Lord Mahavira’s Teachings Timeless and Relevant

The nation is celebrating Mahavir Jayanti, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, with religious fervour and cultural events across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the nation and is scheduled to participate in a Mahavir Jayanti event in Gujarat later today.

PM Modi Highlights Relevance of Mahavira’s Teachings

In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said:

“On the sacred occasion of Bhagwan Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, heartfelt greetings. His life and teachings illuminate the path of truth, non-violence, and compassion. His ideals are spiritually uplifting and remain highly relevant even today.”

In another message, he emphasized that Lord Mahavira’s teachings based on truth, harmony, good conduct, and equality continue to inspire humanity and guide society towards shared responsibility.

Leaders Across India Extend Greetings

Several prominent leaders also conveyed their wishes on the occasion:

  • Union Minister Nitin Gadkari described Lord Mahavira as a symbol of sacrifice, truth, and non-violence, whose teachings will continue to guide generations.
  • Yogi Adityanath said Mahavira’s principles of truth, non-violence, non-stealing, non-possession, and compassion illuminate the world and remain timeless for humanity.
  • Bhajan Lal Sharma urged citizens to imbibe the message of “Ahimsa Parmo Dharma” and “Live and Let Live” to build a better society.
  • Mohan Yadav highlighted Mahavira’s teachings of truth, non-violence, and self-discipline as guiding principles for public welfare.
  • Rekha Gupta said Mahavira’s life continues to inspire peace, compassion, and harmony in society.
  • Pushkar Singh Dhami reiterated the importance of spreading Mahavira’s message of non-violence and compassion among people.
  • Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Prasad Maurya also extended greetings, emphasizing that Mahavira’s teachings promote moral values, self-discipline, and social harmony.

Nation Celebrates with Devotion and Cultural Events

Mahavir Jayanti is being observed with prayers, processions, and community events at Jain temples across India. Devotees are reflecting on Lord Mahavira’s teachings of ahimsa (non-violence), truth, compassion, and equality, which continue to hold relevance in modern society.
