Ladakh Prepares for Sacred Buddha Relics Exposition in Leh, CS Ashish Kundra Reviews Arrangements

The Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh is making extensive preparations for the Sacred Buddha Relics Exposition to be held at the Dharma Centre in Choglamsar, Leh.

High-Level Meeting Chaired by Chief Secretary

Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra chaired the third UT-level Coordination Committee meeting, reviewing all arrangements for the upcoming exposition of the holy relics of Gautama Buddha.

Focus on Timeline and Event Planning

Detailed discussions were held on:

  • Arrival schedule of the sacred relics
  • Main exposition and closing ceremony
  • Parallel events including cultural programmes, exhibitions, and public activities

Events such as health camps, yoga sessions, and a peace march are also planned to engage the public.

Grand Procession and Public Participation

The Chief Secretary reviewed:

  • Ceremonial reception of relics in Leh
  • Procession from Delhi
  • Crowd management through a staggered veneration schedule

Special emphasis was laid on ensuring smooth and safe participation for devotees and visitors.

Coordination with Religious Bodies

The administration will work closely with:

  • Ladakh Gompa Association
  • Monastic leaders and Rinpoches

They will oversee religious ceremonies and prayers throughout the exposition.

Arrangements for National and International Visitors

Preparations are underway for:

  • Visits by prominent Buddhist leaders
  • Participation of national and international delegations

Zanskar Veneration Plans

The meeting also discussed arrangements for public veneration in Zanskar, with directions issued for:

  • Logistics and transportation
  • Security arrangements
  • Effective crowd management

Proposed Dates and On-Ground Review

The Ladakh Gompa Association proposed that the relics be displayed at the Dharma Centre on April 13 and 14. The Chief Secretary assured that the proposal would be taken up with concerned authorities.

Following the meeting, Ashish Kundra conducted an on-site inspection of the Dharma Centre to assess readiness.

Multi-Stakeholder Participation

The meeting was attended by:

  • Senior officials including DGP Ladakh and DC Leh
  • Religious leaders and Rinpoches
  • Representatives from LBA, LGA, monasteries, Sowa Rigpa, and other organizations
