International Festival of Yoga and Meditation 2026 Celebrated in Leh, Brings Focus on Public Health and Holistic Well-being

Ladakh: A seminar on “Integration of Yoga for Public Health” was organized by the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa (NISR), Leh, in collaboration with the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, as part of the ongoing International Festival of Yoga and Meditation 2026. Healthcare experts, yoga practitioners, scholars, and delegates came together for the event. They discussed the role of yoga and traditional medical systems in strengthening preventive healthcare and promoting holistic well-being.

The program began with a tour of the NISR campus and museum, followed by a seminar. Dr. Padma Gurmet, Director of NISR, emphasized integrating Yoga with Sowa-Rigpa to strengthen preventive healthcare. Chief Guest and former Director of the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Dr. Ishwar V. Basavaraddi, highlighted the role of yoga in promoting holistic health, while Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena emphasized the importance of meditation and compassion in fostering well-being and social harmony.

The seminar featured expert presentations on topics such as building emotional resilience through yoga, emotional fitness as a future skill, and the integration of yoga with Sowa Rigpa. These sessions highlighted the contribution of yoga to emotional stability, mental health, and holistic healthcare.

This seminar is part of the ‘International Festival of Yoga and Meditation 2026’, being held across Ladakh to mark the UN’s 12th ‘International Day of Yoga’. As part of this festival, Yogathons, meditation sessions, youth outreach programs, and yoga events will be organized at key locations across the region. Key highlights include special yoga sessions at the Siachen Base Camp and Pangong Lake, showcasing Ladakh’s emerging global identity as a hub for wellness, meditation, and holistic living.
