Ladakh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and dedicate to the nation five major development projects in Ladakh, worth approximately ₹3,350 crore, via video conferencing around 12:30 PM on October 15, 2026. These projects will help strengthen transport connectivity in the region, improve power supply, preserve cultural heritage and boost water security.
These projects include the new passenger terminal at Leh’s Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, constructed at a cost of ₹640 crore. Spanning 23,800 square meters, the terminal will have an annual passenger capacity of 3.5 million. Geothermal energy has been utilized in the facility to enhance energy efficiency.
The Prime Minister will also dedicate the 298-kilometer-long Nimmu-Padum-Darcha road to the nation. Constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), this road will connect Nimmu to Darcha in Himachal Pradesh through the Zanskar Valley. It will provide Ladakh with an alternative connectivity route, facilitate the movement of armed forces, and improve local access to healthcare services, education, and markets.
In the energy sector, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the 9 MW Hanu Small Hydroelectric Project and the 66 kV Double-Circuit Dah-Hanu-Khaltsi Transmission Line. Meanwhile, India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park will be launched at Sindhu Ghat in Leh. The initiative aims to preserve Ladakh’s prehistoric rock art, raise public awareness about it, and promote heritage tourism.
Additionally, 40 water bodies developed across 40 villages under the ‘Him Sarovar’ project will be inaugurated. Launched in alignment with the objectives of ‘Mission Amrit Sarovar’, this initiative aims to conserve available water and ensure its utilization during times of need. It will help increase water availability for irrigation, support farmers’ livelihoods, and strengthen long-term water security in Ladakh.
