PM Modi Unveils Three New Vande Bharat Trains, Emphasizes Rapid Development Towards Viksit Bharat

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially flagged off three new Vande Bharat trains via video conferencing, marking a major milestone in India’s journey toward becoming a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India). The newly inaugurated routes include Meerut-Lucknow, Madurai-Bengaluru, and Chennai-Nagercoil, reflecting a significant enhancement in the nation’s railway network.

During the virtual launch ceremony, PM Modi highlighted the pivotal role these Vande Bharat trains play in modernizing India’s transportation infrastructure. He described the expansion as a symbol of the country’s progress and commitment to development, blending modernity with speed.

“Today, from the north to the south, we are adding another chapter to India’s development journey,” Modi said. He praised the Vande Bharat trains for their advanced features and efficiency, noting that they represent a leap forward in the country’s quest for modern transportation solutions. The new routes aim to improve connectivity between major cities and important destinations.

The Prime Minister specifically noted the strategic significance of the Madurai-Bengaluru route, which connects the historic city of Madurai with the technology hub of Bengaluru. This new service is expected to greatly benefit pilgrims and boost regional tourism. Similarly, the Chennai-Nagercoil route will enhance travel options for students, farmers, and IT professionals, contributing to increased economic activity and local business growth.

“The introduction of these Vande Bharat trains is not just about convenience; it’s about economic impact,” Modi added. He highlighted how the enhanced connectivity has led to a rise in tourism, improved local business revenues, and created new job opportunities.

Modi also underscored the importance of accelerating development in southern India. He pointed out that the government has prioritized the rapid development of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and the broader southern region. This year’s budget reflects this commitment, with Tamil Nadu receiving over Rs 6,000 crores for railway infrastructure—an allocation more than seven times higher than in 2014. Tamil Nadu’s fleet of Vande Bharat trains will now increase from six to eight. Additionally, Karnataka has been allocated over Rs 7,000 crores for its railway projects.

The new Vande Bharat trains are designed to offer a superior travel experience with reduced journey times. The Meerut-Lucknow train will cut travel time by approximately one hour compared to the fastest current service, while the Chennai Egmore-Nagercoil train will save over two hours, and the Madurai-Bengaluru service will reduce travel time by about one hour and 30 minutes.

These additions to the Vande Bharat network are expected to enhance passenger convenience and comfort, serving key regions including Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. PM Modi’s latest initiative reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to modernize India’s railways and support regional development as part of its broader vision for a developed and prosperous India.
