LG Kavinder Gupta Reviews Preparations for 1st Sindhu Mahakumbh 2026 in Leh

Leh: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Kavinder Gupta chaired a high-level preparatory meeting at Lok Niwas to review arrangements for the 1st Sindhu Mahakumbh 2026, scheduled to be held on June 23–24 at the revered Sindhu Ghat.

The LG directed all departments to make comprehensive and coordinated arrangements to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the grand spiritual event, emphasizing that the Mahakumbh will reflect Ladakh’s organisational excellence and cultural pride.

Sindhu Mahakumbh 2026 to Highlight Ladakh’s Cultural Heritage

Addressing officials, LG Kavinder Gupta said the Sindhu Mahakumbh is not merely an event but a symbol of Ladakh’s discipline, capability, and hospitality. He noted that the event will bring together thousands of devotees, dignitaries, and cultural troupes from across India and abroad, strengthening Ladakh’s identity as a spiritual and tourism destination.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra, senior administrative officials, and members of the Sindhu Darshan Yatra Samiti.

General Secretary of the Samiti, Bhupinder Kansil, informed that the Sindhu Darshan Festival has been organised since 1987 and that the 2026 edition will mark its 30th celebration, being held as the First Sindhu Mahakumbh. Pilgrims from over 25 States and Union Territories, along with foreign ambassadors and dignitaries, are expected to participate.

‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ to Guide Arrangements

Emphasising the spirit of “Atithi Devo Bhava,” the LG directed the Administration to welcome every pilgrim with respect and warmth. He called for detailed, time-bound action plans covering logistics, security, medical services, and visitor management, along with regular progress reviews.

Key directives included:

  • Effective crowd management and traffic regulation
  • Adequate parking and smooth pilgrim movement
  • Robust security coordination between police and administration
  • Fully operational emergency response systems
  • Deployment of medical camps, ambulances, and disaster management teams
  • High standards of sanitation, potable water supply, lighting, and waste management
  • Environmentally sustainable event management

A Joint Control Room will be set up for real-time coordination among departments, and strict accountability measures will be enforced to avoid lapses.

Committee Formed for Successful Execution

Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra announced the formation of a committee under the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, to oversee preparations and ensure seamless execution of the event.

LG Kavinder Gupta reaffirmed that the UT Administration is committed to making the 1st Sindhu Mahakumbh 2026 a spiritually enriching, secure, and meticulously organised event that showcases Ladakh’s cultural heritage, tourism potential, and administrative excellence at the national level.
