NFSM–Wheat Training Camp Held at Likir to Promote Modern Farming Practices

Leh: The Agriculture Department on March 5, 2026 organised a one-day training camp under the National Food Security Mission – Wheat (NFSM–Wheat) at Likir village to create awareness among farmers about improved agricultural practices and modern farming technologies.

Around 70 farmers from Likir village participated in the programme, which focused on enhancing farmers’ knowledge about the cultivation of rajma, mustard and wheat, along with the adoption of sustainable agricultural techniques.

Experts Lead Farmer Training

The training session was conducted by Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Mohd Ramzan, Agriculture Extension Officer Leh Tsering Dolkar, Junior Agriculture Extension Officers Stanzin Idong, Ishey Dolma and Deachen Angmo.

During the session, experts shared practical knowledge and modern farming techniques aimed at improving crop productivity in Ladakh’s unique agro-climatic conditions.

Focus on Sustainable and Modern Farming

The programme covered several important topics, including:

  • Package of practices for greenhouse cultivation in Ladakh
  • Preparation and benefits of vermicompost
  • Efficient water management through drip and sprinkler irrigation
  • Importance of natural and organic farming
  • Cultivation of rajma, wheat and mustard under NFSM–Wheat
  • Role of mulching in moisture conservation and improving crop yield
  • Seed production technology for quality seed multiplication

Awareness About Government Schemes

Farmers were also informed about various government schemes and subsidies offered by the Agriculture Department to support agricultural development and improve farm productivity.

The interactive session allowed farmers to raise queries and gain a better understanding of sustainable farming practices suitable for Ladakh’s climatic conditions.

Officials from the Agriculture Department assured participants of continued technical guidance and support to help farmers improve productivity and move towards greater self-reliance in agriculture.
