Kargil, March 31, 2026: Reinforcing the Union Territory of Ladakh administration’s zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse, the District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) Kargil organized an awareness programme at Government Higher Secondary School Lankerchay.
The initiative was held under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in collaboration with IKMT, AJUIAK, Police Post Sankoo, and RBSK Sankoo.
Awareness Drive Focused on Youth and Prevention
The programme began with a welcome address by teacher Sajjad Hussain, followed by a quiz competition aimed at educating students about drug abuse and preventive measures.
Speakers from various organizations highlighted the importance of awareness and prevention:
- Sheikh Bashir Shakir (IKMT): Urged students to channel their energy positively and stay away from addiction
- Aga Raza Rezvi (AJUIAK): Spoke on the rising threat of drug abuse and shared religious perspectives discouraging substance use
- Feroz Ahmad (Sub-Inspector, Police Post Sankoo): Explained legal consequences related to drug abuse
- Fayaz Ali (Counsellor, RBSK CHC Sankoo): Emphasized early awareness, especially for students moving outside the region for higher education
Sports and Fitness Promoted as Alternatives
International Taekwondo player Shehnaz Parveen encouraged students to adopt sports and fitness as healthy alternatives to avoid drug addiction.
Government’s Zero Tolerance Policy Highlighted
DDAC representative Imtiyaz elaborated on the objectives of the anti-drug campaign and reiterated the government’s strict stance against substance abuse.
Prizes and Sports Equipment Distributed
- Winners of the quiz competition were awarded prizes
- Sports equipment was distributed to the school to promote active lifestyles
Collaborative Effort Appreciated
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Principal Rinchan Angmo, who appreciated the joint efforts of all stakeholders in organizing the awareness initiative.
