Ladakh to Get 33 Electric Buses Under Centre’s PM-eBus Sewa Scheme

Date:

Leh (Ladakh): Public transport in Ladakh is set for a major boost after the Centre approved 33 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa scheme, aimed at promoting sustainable mobility in the region.

According to officials, the buses will be 7-metre electric vehicles, specially designed to operate efficiently in Ladakh’s high-altitude terrain and narrow, rugged roads.

The new fleet is expected to be delivered within a month and will significantly enhance connectivity, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas. Authorities said the move will provide a more comfortable, reliable, and eco-friendly travel option for residents.

The initiative is part of the Centre’s broader push to develop Ladakh as a carbon-neutral region, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and cutting emissions in the ecologically sensitive Himalayan landscape.

Officials also noted that the introduction of e-buses will help lower pollution levels, improve public transport efficiency, and support sustainable development goals in the Union Territory.

The approval marks a significant step in strengthening Ladakh’s transport infrastructure, aligning with ongoing efforts to modernise mobility systems while protecting the fragile environment of the region.
