Storming to the Semis: Indian Women Beat Japan 2-1, Reach Nations Cup Semi-Finals

The Indian women’s hockey team entered the semi-finals of the FIH Hockey Nations Cup after defeating Japan 2-1 in their second Pool A match in Auckland, New Zealand. Captain Salima Tete and Lalremsiami scored for India, while Hiramitsu Ai netted Japan’s only goal. Salima Tete was named Player of the Match.

This match was memorable for midfielder Jyoti, as she played her 100th senior international match. With this victory, the hitherto unbeaten Indian team has moved to the top of Pool A, having secured six points from wins against the USA and Japan. India will now face Uruguay in their final Pool A match on Thursday, while Japan and USA will compete for the second semi-final spot from the pool.

The Indian men’s hockey team will next play Germany in the FIH Pro League in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Earlier on Sunday, India lost a very close match to the Netherlands in Rotterdam, with a final score of 3 to 2.
