India delivered a stellar performance in the men’s javelin throw event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, securing two medals. Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal with a best throw of 85.83 meters, while Yashvir Singh clinched the bronze medal with a throw of 85.41 meters in his final attempt. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the gold medal with a throw of 89.75 meters.
Neeraj records season-best performance
Neeraj Chopra recorded a throw of 80.97 meters in his first attempt. In his second attempt, he achieved a distance of 85.83 meters, marking his best performance of the season. He followed this with throws of 81.29 meters and 80.73 meters in his third and fourth attempts, respectively. However, Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage secured the top spot with an impressive throw of 89.75 meters.
Yashvir’s final throw proves to be a game-changer
Yashvir Singh recorded throws of 78.55 meters in his second attempt and 81.33 meters in his third. He achieved a distance of 76.95 meters in his fifth attempt, but his final throw of 85.41 meters not only secured the bronze medal but also marked a new personal best performance.
Rohit Yadav finishes seventh
Indian athlete Rohit Yadav finished seventh in the competition with a best throw of 81.56 meters. He recorded distances of 77.50 meters in the first attempt, 81.56 meters in the second, 73.70 meters in the fourth, and 79.55 meters in the sixth attempt.
India’s medal tally reaches 23
With these two medals, India’s total medal count at the 2026 Commonwealth Games has reached 23. This tally includes 5 gold, 12 silver, and 6 bronze medals. India has won 11 medals in athletics and para-athletics so far. Additionally, India has secured 3 medals in judo (including 2 golds), 8 in weightlifting, and 1 bronze in para-powerlifting.
