Basant Meghwal, Shahnawaz Khan Make History as India Wins Two Medals at U20 Worlds

India scripted history at the World Athletics U20 Championships held in Eugene, USA. Basant Kumar Meghwal and Shahnawaz Khan achieved a new milestone by winning medals in the high jump and long jump events, respectively. They became the first Indian athletes to win medals in these two events at this global junior competition.

Reigning Asian U20 champion Basant Kumar Meghwal won the silver medal in the men’s high jump event with a best leap of 2.21 meters. Algeria’s Younis Ayachi won the gold medal in this event, while Great Britain’s Otis Poole took the bronze.

Meanwhile, Shahnawaz Khan secured the bronze medal in the men’s long jump with an impressive leap of 7.84 meters. With these two medals, India’s total medal tally at the championship rose to three. This achievement sees India matching its performance from the 2021 and 2022 editions.
