The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has approved a proposal to name the Noida International Airport, currently under construction in Jewar, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The proposal to name the airport ‘Narendra Modi Jewar International Airport’ was ratified during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday. A total of 39 proposals were approved during the meeting. The Chief Minister stated that the state cabinet passed this resolution to honour the Prime Minister’s contributions, marking the occasion of his completing 25 years of public service.
Prime Minister’s Deep Bond with Uttar Pradesh: Yogi
Following the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi shares a deep, personal bond with Uttar Pradesh, and under his leadership, the state is scaling new heights of development. He described the Prime Minister’s 25-year tenure in public service as pivotal for the development of both the nation and the state. Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, along with leaders from allied parties, were also present on the occasion.
Service, Dedication, and Nation-Building as the Mission
The Chief Minister stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made service, dedication, and nation-building his mission. Under his leadership, India’s global stature has strengthened. Citing the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Yogi noted that it marked the end of a 500-year-long wait. He also highlighted the construction of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and the repatriation and installation of the idol of Goddess Annapurna from abroad as significant examples of the Prime Minister’s efforts.
Transforming the State’s Landscape through Expressways, Metro, and Air Connectivity
Yogi Adityanath observed that prior to 2017, Uttar Pradesh lacked adequate basic infrastructure; however, connectivity has now improved significantly through projects such as expressways, highways, the metro, and the Regional Rapid Transit System. The development of Jewar Airport is expected to bolster the state’s air connectivity and accelerate economic activity.
Jewar Airport to be Developed in Four Phases
The Noida International Airport in Jewar is being developed as one of Uttar Pradesh’s key infrastructure projects. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the airport on March 28, 2026. In this initial phase, a terminal and runway were developed across an area of 3,300 acres at a cost of approximately ₹11,000 crore. Its initial annual passenger handling capacity is estimated at around 1.2 crore. Once all four phases of the project are completed, the airport is slated to become one of the largest in Asia. The airport’s operations and expansion are expected to boost passenger transport, freight movement, investment, and employment opportunities.
BrahMos Unit and PM MITRA Textile Park to Open Up New Possibilities
Highlighting industrial development in the state, the Chief Minister stated that projects such as the BrahMos missile manufacturing unit and the PM MITRA Textile Park in Lucknow could generate new avenues for investment and employment. He noted that Uttar Pradesh is also strengthening its position as a logistics hub, driven by improved road and air connectivity.
1,725 New Electric Buses to Operate Across 18 Municipal Corporation Areas
Energy and Urban Development Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma announced that 1,725 new electric buses would be deployed across 18 municipal corporation areas in the state to enhance the urban transport system. He explained that, under the established procurement policy, 50% of the buses would be purchased from the company quoting the lowest rate in the tender, while the remaining buses would be sourced from companies manufacturing buses within Uttar Pradesh. The initiative aims to improve urban transport infrastructure and expand public transport options.
Mention of Schemes for the Poor, Farmers, and Deprived Sections
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also highlighted government schemes implemented for the poor, farmers, women, and deprived sections of society. He stated that over 65 lakh houses have been provided under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in the state, and free food grains are being distributed to 3.67 crore ration cardholders. The Chief Minister stated that efforts are underway to accelerate the development of Uttar Pradesh through infrastructure development, industrial investment, improved connectivity, and public welfare schemes.
