The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved the establishment of the first medical college in Ladakh. The college is set to commence operations from the 2027-28 academic year. Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor, V.K. Saxena, has described this medical college as a historic achievement for the region.
Mr Saxena stated that this initiative will provide the youth of Ladakh with greater access to quality medical education closer to home and will significantly bolster the long-term healthcare infrastructure across the entire region. He added that the Ladakh administration will ensure all necessary arrangements are in place for the first batch of medical students.
On the 18th of this month, Justice Surya Kant (of the Supreme Court of India) inaugurated the Leh bench of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
