Ladakh LG Kavinder Gupta Promises Resolution to Leh-Kargil Issue, Updates on Zoji-la Tunnel Progress

Date:

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Kavinder Gupta emphasized the Union Territory’s ongoing development and committed to resolving the longstanding Leh versus Kargil issue during his tenure.

In a detailed statement, Gupta shared his experience from his first visit to Ladakh, where he conducted public outreach programmes at eight locations. “For the first time, an LG has visited the Islamia School. I have sent a clear message that the Leh-Kargil matter will be completely resolved under my leadership,” he said.

Highlighting infrastructure progress, he reported significant advancement on the Zoji-la tunnel, a critical project connecting Ladakh with the rest of India. “I recently went 5.5 km inside the tunnel. On the other side, about 7 km is already built. Only 1,700 metres remain. We are confident that both ends will be connected by early 2026,” Gupta said, noting that work continues steadily despite challenges such as water ingress and de-pumping delays.

He also announced a new pilgrimage route via Ladakh to Amarnath, citing better accessibility. “The route is only 12 km away from Ladakh. Once the tunnel opens, the journey time will reduce from 10 hours to just 3 hours and 45 minutes,” he added, assuring improved facilities and smoother travel.
