PM Modi Holds Talks with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held talks with Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors including defence, maritime security, trade, and technology.

The two leaders discussed ways to enhance strategic partnerships between India and the Philippines, especially in the Indo-Pacific region, where both countries share a common vision for peace, stability, and a rules-based international order.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to deepening ties with ASEAN nations and highlighted the Philippines as a vital partner in ensuring a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific. The discussions also covered collaboration in digital innovation, healthcare, agriculture, and renewable energy.

President Marcos Jr. appreciated India’s support in defence cooperation and expressed interest in expanding trade and investment partnerships. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening maritime cooperation and countering common security challenges in the region.

The meeting also underscored the growing importance of India–Philippines relations within the broader framework of India’s Act East Policy and the ASEAN–India Strategic Partnership.
