₹171.25 Crore Road Safety and Passenger Facility Projects Completed on NH-44 in Jammu & Kashmir: Nitin Gadkari

Date:

The Central Government has achieved another milestone in strengthening road infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced that several key safety and passenger facility projects worth approximately ₹171.25 crore have been completed on National Highway-44 (NH-44).

Sharing the update on social media platform X, the Union Minister said the projects aim to improve road safety, ease traffic movement, and enhance facilities for travelers along this crucial highway.

Blackspot Rectification and Infrastructure Improvements

According to Gadkari, the completed initiatives include the rectification of accident-prone blackspots at SIDCO Chowk and the Gole Mela–Sangoor stretch, which were previously identified as high-risk areas with frequent traffic conflicts.

Additionally, an LVUP (Light Vehicular Underpass) with a service road has been constructed in Samba, which will help streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion on the busy highway.

These improvements have significantly enhanced road geometry, made turning movements safer, and minimized traffic bottlenecks, resulting in smoother and safer travel for commuters.

Modern Wayside Amenities for Travelers

The government has also developed modern wayside amenities at Jhajjar Kotli, Qazigund, and Marhama along NH-44. These facilities are designed to benefit travelers, tourists, and truck drivers who frequently use the highway.

The amenities include:

  • Rest areas for passengers
  • Parking facilities for vehicles
  • Food courts and refreshment zones
  • Clean sanitation services

These facilities are expected to make long-distance travel on the highway more comfortable and convenient.

Key Highway Connecting Jammu and Kashmir Valley

Highlighting the strategic importance of the route, Gadkari noted that NH-44 is a vital highway connecting Jammu with the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country.

Sharing images of the completed works, the minister said these improvements will make the movement of passenger and freight vehicles more efficient, safer, and faster.

Boost to Connectivity, Tourism, and Economy

Gadkari emphasized that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government remains committed to strengthening highway infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.

The upgraded road network is expected to improve regional connectivity, boost tourism, and support economic development across the Union Territory.
