Kargil, April 15, 2026: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena attended the renaming ceremony of the District Hospital in Kargil, which has been officially renamed as Qamar Ali Akhoon Memorial Hospital in honour of the late social worker and public leader.
Tribute to a Visionary Leader
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor described the renaming as a fitting tribute to a personality dedicated to public service. He said honouring such individuals not only recognises their contributions but also strengthens the values of society.
He formally unveiled the new name of the hospital, expressing pride in commemorating the legacy of Qamar Ali Akhoon.
Legacy of Service and Education
Highlighting the contributions of Qamar Ali Akhoon, the LG noted his selfless service to society and his significant role in promoting education, especially women’s education.
He emphasised that empowering women through education leads to the progress of families and society as a whole, adding that Akhoon’s work continues to inspire future generations.
Call for Continued Public Service
The Lieutenant Governor praised the spirit of unity and dedication among the people of Kargil and urged citizens, public representatives, and officials to continue working for the welfare and development of the region.
He reiterated that true social service depends on commitment, compassion, and intent, rather than status or wealth.
Focus on Connectivity and Development
Following the ceremony, the LG also visited Kargil Airport to review infrastructure development plans. He stated that issues related to runway expansion and improved air connectivity would be taken up at the ministry level, with efforts to introduce 19-seater aircraft operations in the near future.
