FLS 2026 Progresses Smoothly in Kargil, Focus on Early Learning Assessment

Date:

The Foundational Learning Study (FLS) 2026 is being conducted smoothly in the Kargil district of Ladakh, as part of a nationwide exercise aimed at assessing early learning outcomes among school students.

The study focuses on evaluating Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) skills of Class 3 students, with an emphasis on basic reading, writing, comprehension, and arithmetic abilities. Officials said the objective is to ensure that children are developing essential competencies at the foundational stage of education in line with national learning goals.

The FLS 2026 is a large-scale national assessment covering over 1 lakh students across 10,000 schools in 776 districts under the supervision of the National Assessment Centre PARAKH (NCERT). The exercise is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the NIPUN Bharat Mission, which aims to achieve universal foundational literacy and numeracy by Grade 3.

In Kargil, education authorities reported that the process is being carried out in a well-coordinated and systematic manner, with smooth implementation across selected schools. Officials are closely monitoring the exercise to ensure accuracy and consistency in data collection.

The assessment is being conducted in a one-on-one digital format using tablet-based tools, allowing real-time recording of student responses and improving the reliability of results. This modern approach is intended to provide more precise insights into learning levels.

Officials said the findings of the study will help identify learning gaps at an early stage and guide targeted interventions to strengthen classroom teaching and improve overall educational outcomes. The initiative is expected to play a key role in shaping future education policies and enhancing foundational learning across the country.
