World Heritage Day Celebrated in Leh with Focus on Cultural Preservation

Leh (Ladakh): The Department of Anthropology at EJM College, Leh, marked World Heritage Day with a series of educational and interactive activities aimed at promoting awareness about the preservation of cultural and historical heritage.

The programme, held on April 18, 2026, brought together students and faculty to highlight the importance of safeguarding heritage for future generations. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Shivanshi Nehria, who underlined the significance of heritage conservation and its global relevance.

Students actively participated in the celebration by delivering awareness speeches focused on protecting monuments, traditions, and cultural identity. The speakers emphasized the responsibility of the younger generation in preserving heritage and maintaining cultural continuity.

As part of the programme, a poster-making competition was organised, where students creatively depicted themes such as cultural diversity, historical monuments, and traditional practices. The activity witnessed enthusiastic participation, reflecting strong engagement with the subject.

The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where winners were felicitated and certificates were awarded. A vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Diskit Wangmo, appreciating the efforts of organisers and the active involvement of students.

Overall, the celebration served as an informative and engaging platform to reinforce the importance of preserving Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage, while encouraging youth to take an active role in conservation efforts.
