Poshan Pakhwada & Early Child Marriage Awareness Programme Held in Shargole

Date:

Kargil (Ladakh): A tehsil-level awareness programme on Poshan Pakhwada and early child marriage was organised by the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Project Shargole, aiming to promote nutrition and child protection in the region.

The event was held at Government Higher Secondary School in Shargole on April 20, with participation from students, teachers, ICDS staff, and local residents. It was conducted in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Kargil to maximise outreach and impact.

During the programme, officials highlighted the objectives of Poshan Pakhwada, a nationwide campaign focused on improving nutritional awareness and health outcomes, especially among children and women. Speakers stressed the importance of proper nutrition, good parenting practices, and education for holistic child development.

Resource persons also addressed the issue of early child marriage, explaining its legal implications and harmful impact on children’s health, education, and future opportunities. Participants were sensitised about child protection laws, including provisions under the POCSO Act, and encouraged to report such cases.

An exhibition showcasing traditional and local food items was organised to promote the nutritional value of indigenous diets suited to Ladakh’s climate. The display aimed to encourage communities to adopt healthier eating habits using locally available resources.

The programme witnessed active engagement from Anganwadi workers, ICDS supervisors, and school authorities, reflecting a coordinated effort to spread awareness at the grassroots level.

Officials said such initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening community awareness on nutrition and child welfare, while also discouraging harmful practices like early marriage, thereby contributing to healthier and safer communities in Ladakh.
