He said that against the target of 4.95 crore houses under the scheme, 3.91 crore houses have been approved so far and construction of more than 3.05 crore houses has been completed.
“When a home is good, life becomes easier. We are not just building houses, but also providing them with basic amenities like roads, electricity, drinking water, LPG connections, and toilets,” said Mr. Chauhan. He added that the Government of India is constantly striving to improve the living standards of rural families through a coordination of various welfare schemes.
He also praised the new ideas the states are working on. He noted that several states have taken commendable initiatives, such as helplines, grievance redressal systems, rainwater harvesting, livelihood promotion through self-help groups, and mason training programs, which have accelerated the achievement of the scheme’s goals.
Highlighting women empowerment, the Union Minister said that about 75 per cent of the houses sanctioned under PMAY-G are either in the name of women or are jointly owned, thereby Boosting the dignity, self-respect, and security of women.
Mr. Chauhan further stated that housing construction is hampered where poor families lack land. He urged states to take special initiatives to provide land and necessary assistance to such beneficiaries.
He also called upon states to ensure timely resolution of pending complaints, accelerate construction of ongoing houses, and ensure prompt utilization of approved funds. He further noted that some states have still not completed the approval process in line with their 2024-25 and 2025-26 targets and urged them to complete this process by June 30, 2026.
During the video conferencing, the Union Minister also called upon every beneficiary and PMAY-G unit to plant at least one sapling under the ‘Ek Ped, Maa Ke Naam’ campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, 2026.
