Central security forces and Jammu and Kashmir police have strengthened the security arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Yatra (SANJY)-2026. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti (IPS) and the IG of the CRPF Jammu Sector, along with other senior officials, reviewed the security arrangements in the Kathua and Samba districts.
IGP Jammu reviewed the Yatra route, security arrangements, surveillance deployments and various security measures in Lakhanpur, Kathua, and Samba. During this visit, the main focus was on making the security grid more secure, maintaining better coordination between the various security agencies and enhancing the facilities for the pilgrims.
At Lakhanpur, the IGP visited the reception centre to assess the status of deployed security forces, the pilgrim screening process, search procedures, and other security arrangements. Subsequently, he presided over a high-level security review meeting.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Kathua; Commanding Officers of the CRPF’s 121st Battalion and BSF’s 159th Battalion; the ADC of Kathua; the SP (Operations); the Additional SP; various zonal officers deployed for SANJY duties; and representatives from security agencies.
Discussions during the meeting focused on security management along the National Highway, traffic control, emergency response mechanisms, and measures to tackle potential threats. The IGP instructed officials to maintain round-the-clock surveillance, perform their duties with utmost vigilance, and provide all possible assistance to the pilgrims. He emphasised that the safety of the pilgrims is the top priority.
Earlier, a high-level security review meeting was also held at the Samba District Police Office, jointly chaired by IGP Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti and IG CRPF Jammu Sector Amol V. Homkar (IPS). The meeting was attended by DIG JSK Range Sridhar Patil, DIG CRPF Awadhesh Pathak, and Samba SSP Anuj Kumar, along with officials from the CISF, CRPF, BSF, SSB, and the police force.
The Yatra security plan for Samba district was reviewed during the meeting. Discussions covered national highway security, border area surveillance, security at entry points, langar sites, halting points, Quick Response Teams (QRTs), surveillance systems, and security arrangements for the Yatra convoys.
