Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Saturday. Modi welcomed Ibrahim to India and appreciated Malaysia’s participation in the summit as a BRICS partner country.
The two leaders reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation following Modi’s visit to Malaysia in February 2026. Their discussions covered trade and investment, defence and security, semiconductors, infrastructure, digital economy, energy, fintech, education, tourism and people-to-people ties.
Malaysia also conveyed its concurrence with the establishment of an Indian Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Modi appreciated Malaysia’s continued support for strengthening ASEAN-India relations. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to further strengthen the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
