India AI Summit Highlights India’s Leadership in Ethical AI; LG Ladakh Backs Green Data Centres and AI-Enabled City Vision

New Delhi, Feb 19: The India AI Summit at Bharat Mandapam showcased India’s growing leadership in ethical, responsible and human-centric Artificial Intelligence (AI), with participation from over 20 countries.

During his visit to the summit, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, said the event reflects India’s emergence as a trusted global partner in shaping the future of AI governance. Commissioner Secretary IT, Ladakh, Shashanka Ala, accompanied him.

India’s Vision: Ethical and Inclusive AI

The Lt Governor noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, initiatives such as Digital India and AI for All have created a strong foundation for leveraging emerging technologies to empower citizens and strengthen governance.

He emphasized that the summit brought together heads of state, policymakers, industry leaders and global technology firms, reinforcing India’s central role in defining global AI discourse. According to him, the international participation demonstrates confidence in India’s commitment to transparent, ethical and democratic AI systems.

Interactions with Global Tech Leaders

During the visit, the Lt Governor toured multiple technology pavilions and interacted with representatives from leading companies including Google, Meta, Amazon, Bharti Airtel and CoRover.

He appreciated AI-driven innovations aimed at improving governance efficiency, healthcare delivery, education systems, digital inclusion and public service mechanisms.

Ladakh’s Push for AI-Driven Governance

Highlighting the relevance of AI for frontier regions, the Lt Governor said Ladakh intends to use AI for:

  • Smart administration and predictive governance
  • Environmental monitoring and climate resilience
  • Disaster management systems
  • Tourism management
  • Youth skill development

He added that the Union Territory is working towards becoming India’s first AI-enabled city, using technology to enhance urban governance and improve quality of life.

Ladakh as a Green Data Centre Hub

The Lt Governor also outlined Ladakh’s potential as a destination for sustainable data infrastructure. He cited the region’s naturally cold climate, low humidity and renewable energy potential as major advantages for establishing energy-efficient data centres.

According to him, Ladakh offers long-term benefits for green and sustainable data centres, aligned with India’s digital sovereignty and data security goals. The region could emerge as a strategic hub for next-generation AI, cloud computing and digital governance infrastructure with minimal environmental impact.

Strengthening India’s AI Leadership

The India AI Summit, themed around inclusive and development-oriented AI, is expected to deepen global cooperation and accelerate innovation. The Lt Governor expressed confidence that the summit’s outcomes would further reinforce India’s journey toward becoming a global AI powerhouse while ensuring that technological advancement remains people-centric and equitable.

With strong policy backing and growing international collaboration, India continues to position itself at the forefront of ethical and human-centric Artificial Intelligence development.
