Drass (Ladakh): A six-day basic course in smartphone filmmaking has commenced at Government Degree College (GDC) Drass, aimed at equipping students with practical skills in mobile-based video production and storytelling.
The programme is designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of filmmaking using smartphones, covering key areas such as storytelling, camera handling, shooting techniques, and editing. The initiative seeks to empower students with creative and technical skills that are increasingly relevant in today’s digital content landscape.
Officials said the course focuses on both theoretical understanding and hands-on training, enabling students to learn how to conceptualise ideas, shoot videos, and edit content directly on their mobile devices. Smartphone filmmaking typically includes training in composition, lighting, sound recording, and post-production techniques, helping learners create professional-quality videos with minimal equipment.
The training also encourages participants to explore storytelling through short films and digital media, promoting creativity and self-expression among youth. Such courses often culminate in practical projects where students apply their learning to produce short videos or films.
Faculty members highlighted that smartphone filmmaking is becoming an important skill, especially for aspiring content creators, journalists, and filmmakers, as it allows high-quality content creation using accessible technology.
