In a major step towards improving financial awareness, the National Payments Corporation of India has partnered with TransUnion CIBIL to enable users to check their credit score directly on the BHIM UPI app.
With this integration, users can now access their CIBIL score and detailed credit report without leaving the BHIM platform, making it easier to track their financial health alongside daily digital transactions.
The feature is available on BHIM app version 4.0.19 and above and works on a consent-based model, ensuring that users’ credit data is accessed only after explicit approval, in line with privacy and regulatory norms.
How the feature works
Users can check their credit score by navigating to the “Free CIBIL Score” option within the app. After entering basic details such as PAN and accepting terms, the score and report are displayed instantly.
Key benefits
- Easy access: No need to visit separate platforms for credit checks
- Financial awareness: Encourages users to monitor credit health regularly
- Integrated experience: Combines payments, expense tracking, and credit insights in one app
- Error correction: Users can identify discrepancies and raise disputes if needed
Officials said the move aims to transform BHIM from just a payments app into a comprehensive financial management platform, helping users make more informed borrowing and spending decisions.
The initiative is expected to boost credit literacy and inclusion, especially among users in semi-urban and rural areas who may not actively track their credit profiles but regularly use UPI for transactions.
With digital payments continuing to grow rapidly in India, the integration of credit score services into widely used apps like BHIM marks a significant step towards building a more financially aware and empowered user base.
