Ladakh: In preparation for a historic spiritual event, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has initiated a large-scale beautification drive across Leh city ahead of the upcoming Sacred Exposition of the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha, scheduled to draw thousands of devotees and visitors from across India and abroad.
The initiative, launched under the direction of the Lieutenant Governor, aims to transform Leh into a clean, visually appealing, and tourist-friendly destination. Authorities have begun extensive work across key locations, particularly in the Leh Main Market and surrounding public areas, to enhance the city’s overall appearance and readiness for the high-profile religious gathering.
Officials stated that the beautification effort includes plantation drives, installation of decorative flower pots, wall paintings, and graffiti art, all designed to create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Roadsides, roundabouts, and central dividers are being upgraded with greenery and aesthetic elements to improve the city’s visual appeal.
The move comes ahead of the first-ever public exposition of the sacred relics of Lord Buddha in India, which is expected to take place between early and mid-May. The event holds immense religious and cultural significance, particularly for the Buddhist community, and is anticipated to attract large crowds, including international visitors, diplomats, and spiritual leaders.
