India will host the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum on October 26 and 27 in the Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan in New Delhi. The event will bring together parliamentary leaders from BRICS member and partner nations to discuss topics such as global cooperation, technological innovation, and sustainable development.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced this event during a press conference at the Parliament House, describing the platform as a significant milestone in India’s parliamentary diplomacy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the event and engage with the leaders of the visiting delegations. The conference will be inaugurated on October 26.
The forum will bring together presiding officers and parliamentary leaders from BRICS member and partner countries, Union Ministers, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, representatives of state legislatures, Members of Parliament and other dignitaries.
This forum will be held under the theme “Strengthening Parliaments for People-Centric Development.” It will feature four high-level sessions focused on resilience, innovation, collaboration, and sustainability.
These sessions will address strengthening parliamentary institutions, fostering human-centric innovation in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, advancing representation in global governance, and ensuring a sustainable and inclusive future.
A special meeting of the chairpersons of the international affairs committees of the participating parliaments will focus on parliamentary diplomacy, capacity building and the exchange of best practices. The event will also include bilateral meetings, multilateral discussions, and parallel sessions.
A meeting of the secretaries of the delegations has been scheduled for October 25 to finalize the joint statement for the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum. The event will also include cultural activities and visits to the Parliament as well as other locations in Delhi. The Vice President of India will host a banquet in honor of the visiting dignitaries.
The two-day forum will conclude on October 27.
